The Armour of God:
The Sword of the Spirit

‘…and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God’

Ephesians 6:17

Why the sword:

  • The sword is an attacking and defending weapon. It is the word of God. If you forget your sword you can only stand there and get beaten, you wouldn’t be able to fight back.
  • The sword is made of steel because it is strong, stays sharp longer, effective, doesn’t rust very easily and is quite light.
  • The more you train with your sword the more effective you become with it and becomes an extension of your arm.
  • The sword is designed for you to carry and is adjusted for yourself.
  • The sword feels light because it is well balanced, over time the wilt will mould to the your hand and will feel natural and beautiful.
  • As a soldier you hit and kill people, your sword gets damaged so you must clean and sharpen the sword, if you don’t sharpen it the sword becomes blunt and you will not be able to attack anyone with it.

 The word of God:

What are the properties of the Sword?

Steel:

  • Hebrews 4:12: according to this the word of God is sharp and divides into souls and spirit. It can penetrate into your heart and what you believe EX
  • Isaiah 55:11: Gods word is always sharp and never comes back empty.

Extension of your arm?

  • 1 Thessalonians 2:13: St Paul says that they accept it truly as the word of God.
  • Acts 17:11: the Barians wanted to understand everything that St Paul actually said and also wanted to accept it as well, as if it was an extension of themselves.
  • Revelations 1:3: you would be blessed even more if you put the word into practice

Adjusted to fit you:

  • Proverbs 22:17-19: the sword fits you perfectly.
  • Psalm 119:105: everybody walks in different steps, God shows you the path and is adjusted to sit you.

The Sword is Balanced:

  • 2 Timothy 3:16: Gods word is used for teaching and for rebuking.

 The Sword is Light:

  • Psalm 1:1-3: the more you meditate on the word of God the more you find it easier to understand and accept. We will find the word ‘ lighter ‘ if we keep on accepting it.
  • Joshua 1:8: you should be reading the word of God and absorbing it, then you will become prosperous.

The Grip Moulds to take the shape of you hand:

  • Ezra 7:10: he was a Priest. He devoted himself to the study of the word of the Lord, he understands it himself and the he would teaches it.
  • Colossians 3:16: let the word of God dwell in you richly, let your Bible be your best possession.

After Battle the Sword needs cleaning and sharpening:

  • Its not the word of God that needs cleaning & sharpening
  • Psalm 119:9-13: the young man keep themselves pure by living according to the word and memorising the word and recount them by telling it to others

How can I take up the sword?:

You have to have time with God everyday. If you do this you will be close to God. Have it in the morning and do it in the quiet please.

In that quiet time you should pray  using the ; thanksgiving prayer, adoration, praise, intercession, petition. These prayers can be found in the Agpeya. Keeping a spiritual diary well help a lot, every morning you should write down a verse which really touched you and write down in your own words a simple prayer which has relevance to the chapter you have just read.
