What is Christmas ?

Christmas is the commemorations of the birth of Jesus Christ, it is celebrated annually by billions of people around the world, for both religious and cultural reasons.

Christians celebrate the Virgin Mary giving birth to Jesus, fulfilling the Old Testament’s prophecies. Christmas is prepared for by the season of Advent or the Nativity Fast and the Coptic month leading to Christmas is called Kiahk. The Nativity Fast takes place on the 40 days before the Nativity (corresponding to the 40 days that the Prophet Moses fasted in preparation for receiving the 10 Commandments from God, in the same way he waited for the word of God while fasting, we prepare for Christ, the word of God in flesh, while fasting). real christmas

Christmas Gift
Along with the many gifts we receive during Christmas time from family members and friends, we remember that the gift we prepare for the most is God’s gift to us, the gift we have throughout the year, every year. This gift is His incarnation as Jesus, His appearance to us as human. With Jesus, we are given guidance, salvation and grace. Jesus was sent to make our sinful world better after Adam disobeyed God, He guides us away for our iniquities and died, not for His sins, but for ours. With this, God made it possible for us, as sinners, to be blessed by God and have an opportunity of eternal life. God’s gift to us of His grace and His mercy towards His children is something incomprehensible, by sacrificing His son to fix our Earth we understand the importance this Christmas gift.

For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
“Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
