Epiphany Service: Saturday 18th January 2014

This Sunday 19th January is the Feast of the Epiphany.

Epiphany 2014Epiphany means manifestation or appearance, and is used, mostly, in regards to the Baptism of Christ, in which the Holy Trinity was made manifest to man. There will be no liturgy on Sunday, but we will celebrate this great feast on Saturday evening with the Divine Liturgy, and a special blessing of water. Those attending can bring bottles of water to be prayed upon, and will also be anointed by the priests with blessed water. The service will be as follows:

  • Evening Vespers: 6pm
  • Blessing of the water: 6.30pm
  • Matins: 7.30pm
  • The Offertory 8.30pm
  • The liturgy will end around 12am

"...it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, "You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased"" (Luke 3:21-22)
